Blanchard Urges Michigan Democrats to Back Haley Stevens

Former Michigan governor James Blanchard urged Democratic primary voters to support Rep. Haley Stevens in an opinion article published late Friday, days before the August 4 Senate primary. Blanchard cited her support across Michigan's Jewish community and said concerns about antisemitism have grown. He wrote that Stevens supports Israel's right to exist while criticizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a position he contrasted with rival Abdul El-Sayed. Blanchard also said attempts by El-Sayed supporters to interrupt Stevens at a recent party convention created a hostile environment for Jewish attendees and strained Arab-Jewish relations in southeast Michigan.
