U.S. Crude Heads to Israel in First Shipment Since 2023

A Malta-flagged Aframax tanker loaded about 550,000 barrels of U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude near Corpus Christi, Texas, and is signaling Ashkelon as its destination. The vessel, Captain John, loaded at Enbridge’s Ingleside facility on Thursday and was chartered by Vitol. Ship-tracking data show this is the first U.S. crude shipment headed to Israel since October 2023. The shipment comes as the U.S.-Israel war with Iran has sharply reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which previously carried about one-fifth of global crude oil and natural-gas supplies.
