Iran Denies Direct U.S. Talks, Says Oman Channel Covers Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran is not holding direct talks with the United States, despite President Donald Trump’s claim that negotiations would resume Monday. Baghaei said intermediaries may relay American messages and described Pakistan as the mediator, while Qatar is cooperating and China is working to prevent escalation. He said Iran and Oman are discussing a temporary mechanism for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains closed. Regional mediators nevertheless reported progress toward renewed talks after three days without U.S. or Iranian strikes, leaving the diplomatic channel indirect and the waterway unresolved.
