Bessent Says Hormuz Deal Could Come by Wednesday With Free Passage

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that Washington and Tehran could reach an agreement Tuesday or Wednesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz with freedom of movement for commercial shipping. He said the arrangement would not allow Iran to charge tolls and predicted further price relief once hundreds of vessels leave the Persian Gulf. Separately, reports said President Donald Trump was pressing Iran to complete an accord with Oman by Tuesday or face destructive airstrikes. Trump had paused a planned major attack over the weekend to allow negotiations, while Bessent said the threat of military action produced the opening in talks.
