Netanyahu Tells High Court He Will Appoint Interior Minister During Election

The state told the High Court on Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to appoint a permanent interior minister during the election period. The filing followed a Movement for Quality Government petition and a court order seeking details on difficulties caused by leaving the ministry without a permanent head. The state said the vacancy creates mounting legal and practical problems; since July 2025, the government has transferred about 90 ministerial powers to Netanyahu and one to the finance minister. The prospective appointee has not been named, and 35 additional powers still await Knesset approval.
