Karhi Leads 25 MKs Seeking Emergency Plenum Over Broadcast Law Stay

Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi submitted signatures from 25 lawmakers to Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana seeking an emergency plenum during the summer recess after the High Court stayed the new Broadcast Law. The request invokes Section 21(a) of the Knesset Rules and asks for a debate followed by a same-day resolution declaring that judicial review does not authorize freezing or suspending laws enacted by the Knesset. Justice Minister Yariv Levin and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir are among the signatories. The proposal cites a 1999 Knesset resolution urging judicial restraint as parliamentary precedent.
