U.S. Officials Warn Gaza Strikes Risk Derailing Disarmament Plan

U.S. officials criticized Israel on Sunday evening over continued targeted strikes in Gaza, warning they could damage efforts to secure Hamas's disarmament. The officials said Washington believed Israel had accepted ceasefire terms that included halting targeted killings, and claimed three children were killed in the latest strikes. Israeli accounts stressed that the operations target terrorists; the IDF said weekend actions eliminated a Nukhba cell commander who took part in the October 7 massacre and other Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and allied operatives. The U.S. officials argued that renewed strikes could give Hamas a pretext to retreat from months of negotiations.
