Lebanon Proposes Bint Jbeil and Al-Khiam for New Pilot Program

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of heavily damaged southern Lebanese towns and surrounding hills seen across the border.

Lebanon's delegation proposed adding Bint Jbeil and al-Khiam to the next southern pilot program during the seventh round of direct talks with Israel in Rome. Lebanese sources said the towns were chosen for their national significance, border geography and large displaced populations. The talks are reviewing verification arrangements for phased Israeli withdrawals, Lebanese Armed Forces deployment and removal of Hezbollah's terrorist infrastructure. Reports differ on Israel's response: one says Israel rejected the two towns, while others say the delegation carried an alternative list if the proposal is refused.
