MK Dan Illouz Joins Yisrael Beytenu Ahead of October Election

Dan Illouz, a freshman Knesset member who quit Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud last month, announced Wednesday that he will run in the coming election with Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu. The Canadian-born attorney, who entered the Knesset in 2023, said the party represents the national and liberal values he believes in, invoking the legacy of Ze'ev Jabotinsky and Menachem Begin. Liberman welcomed him as a principled figure who has shown courage and integrity, calling the move a strengthening of the Zionist and national camp. Illouz opposed coalition efforts to legislate military draft exemptions for the ultra-Orthodox, and was unlikely to win a realistic Likud slot in the coming vote.
