Government Set to Transfer NIS 1 Billion for Urgent Defense Procurement

The government is expected to approve a NIS 1 billion transfer to the Defense Ministry for urgent, classified procurement needed during 2026. The Finance and Defense ministries jointly submitted the proposal after a ministerial committee approved the procurement and its funding source on Friday. NIS 850 million would come from Economy Ministry funds earmarked for technology-sector investment, while NIS 150 million would come from previously reserved but unallocated government funds. Defense-system legal advisers said the immediate operational need justifies the decision despite restraint rules during the election period, with details of the procurement withheld for security reasons.
