New Report Details Nir Barkat's 2023 Bid to Replace Netanyahu

Political commentator Amit Segal reported that Economy Minister Nir Barkat consulted advisers in October 2023 on a plan to replace Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister. Segal said Barkat met ministers and lawmakers, opposed the government from different directions and sought to defeat the budget between October 2023 and March 2024. According to Segal, Haim Katz told Netanyahu about the effort on November 30, after which Netanyahu dismantled it through political outreach, promotions and sending one participant to a post abroad. Segal described the effort as costly, clumsy and unsuccessful and challenged Barkat to deny the account in court.
