Peggy Flanagan won Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor primary for an open U.S. Senate seat, defeating centrist Representative Angie Craig. The result marked another victory for the party’s progressive wing, and Flanagan will be the front-runner in November against Republican Michele Tafoya. The contest drew tens of millions of dollars from allies of both candidates, while U.S. support for Israel and AIPAC’s role figured prominently. Flanagan campaigned against corporate and wealthy-donor influence; one supporter cited her refusal to take AIPAC money. Craig had argued that her record winning a closely divided House district made her the safer general-election choice.
