Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich unveiled the Reservists Home proposal, targeting no more than 30 reserve-duty days annually by 2027. The plan would return about 50,000 currently unassigned soldiers to active reserve units, create new formations and redistribute security missions. It also calls for expanded Haredi enlistment through dedicated preparatory and service frameworks, alongside a proposed Basic Law granting servicemembers priority for benefits including discounted housing, daycare, academic admission, student housing and civil-service jobs. The proposal, announced during the election campaign, has not been approved as government policy.
