Civil Rights Group Urges Officials to Protect Election Charter Flights

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel sent an urgent appeal to Central Elections Committee chair Justice Noam Sohlberg, acting committee director Dean Livne, Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. It asked them to block any initiative that would impede Israelis abroad from entering the country to vote, following reports that Transportation Ministry officials were considering restrictions on election-period charter flights for political reasons. Attorney Elsa Bonia argued that voting and citizens' entry rights are constitutional, and said logistical constraints do not justify barriers near election day.
