Projet Montréal Revives Motion to Suspend City Ties With Israel

Projet Montréal plans to revive a motion seeking to suspend Montreal's institutional ties with Israel at the August 24 city council meeting. Interim leader Ericka Alneus and councillors Nathalie Goulet and Alex Norris first introduced it in June. The proposal would stop invitations to Israeli state representatives at official City Hall events and repeats disputed genocide and apartheid allegations. Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada previously removed it from the agenda, while CIJA Quebec vice president Eta Yudin warned that importing the conflict for electoral purposes fuels division and urged councillors to focus on Montreal's security and social cohesion.
