Hamas Official Reaffirms Gaza Disarmament Commitment After Kushner Meeting

U.S. negotiator Jared Kushner met Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt on Sunday for talks lasting more than two hours, attended by officials from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey. A Hamas official said the group remained committed to the road map, particularly disarmament, and was awaiting a 14-day negotiation period to set an implementation timetable. The plan would transfer Hamas weapons to a Palestinian technocratic committee as Israeli forces halt attacks and withdraw. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will not leave its current Gaza positions until Hamas is fully disarmed; Israeli forces now control about 60% of the territory.
