Iraq Demands Iran Clarify Its Position on Strike Targeting Kurdistan PM's Office

Iraq's foreign minister Fuad Hussein told Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in a telephone call on Monday that the drone strike on the Kurdistan Region prime minister's headquarters was an unjustified attack and a dangerous escalation. Hussein said Tehran had previously justified such strikes as targeting Iranian opposition groups, and that hitting the head of government's office set a dangerous precedent threatening regional stability. He demanded Iran issue an official statement explaining its position and who was responsible. Araghchi said he had no information indicating the attacks were launched from Iranian territory and promised an official response. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei called the strike highly suspicious and possibly a false-flag operation.
