Iran and Oman Propose Joint Hormuz Corridor and Mine-Clearing Project

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, where the two governments proposed a phased framework to restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Their joint statement calls for a temporary joint navigational corridor and a joint mine-clearing project while technical talks continue toward a permanent corridor. The proposed negotiations would also address future administration of the strait, information sharing, traffic management, and navigational and security services. Both sides said Gulf coastal states should join discussions and that sovereignty, sovereign rights, and international law must be respected.
