Otzma Yehudit Says It Will Seek to Bar Mansour Abbas From Knesset Race

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Mansour Abbas in a gray-blue suit and white shirt looking to his right against a dark red backdrop, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

Otzma Yehudit said it will submit a request to disqualify Ra'am chairman Mansour Abbas from running for the Knesset after he published an Arabic clarification of his political position. Abbas wrote that Israel's Jewish character is a reality chosen by the Jewish majority, not a demand made by Arab parties. He said Arab parties accepted that reality in practice to avoid disqualification, while reiterating support for Palestinian self-determination and a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Otzma Yehudit also attacked possible future political cooperation between Abbas, Naftali Bennett and Gadi Eisenkot.
