IRGC Navy Claims Complete Control of Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s IRGC Navy claimed its forces exercise “complete and decisive” control over the Strait of Hormuz. It rejected U.S. Central Command’s August 28 assertion that internationally recognized shipping lanes were cleared of Iranian mines and open. The force said vessels may not transit without prior coordination with the Islamic Republic and that restrictions will remain until U.S. military action ends and related commitments are fulfilled. The statement said Iran closed the chokepoint after the U.S.-Israel campaign began on February 28 and reimposed restrictions after alleging violations of a Pakistan-mediated 60-day reopening memorandum.
