An Israeli security source said arms smuggling from Syria into Lebanon has decreased, without giving figures or a comparison period. The source said Israel is monitoring the Syrian front and will not allow hostile forces to establish a border presence. The source also said Israel is strengthening defenses by expanding and arming community protection units, while working through several channels to limit Turkish influence in Syria. According to the source, Israel’s principal mission there is to thwart emerging terrorist threats, while control of the front allows combat resources to focus elsewhere.
