Katz Says Senior Hamas Operative Captured in Gaza City

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz standing outdoors in a dark suit and blue tie, with trees, a wooden bench, and parked vehicles behind him, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said during a visit to Netiv HaAsara that a senior Hamas operative had been captured in Gaza City a short time earlier. Israeli reports identified the detainee as Hamas's general-security chief and said he had been wounded before being brought into Israel. Reports linked the capture to an operation near the American Hospital in western Gaza City, where an Israeli-backed local militia came under fire and received Israeli air cover. The IDF said it struck several Gaza targets to remove threats and reported no Israeli troop casualties.
