Tamir, 62, previously commanded the Golani Brigade and the Gaza Division. The approach follows former Shin Bet chief Avi Dichter’s loss in the Likud primary and former defense minister Yoav Gallant’s departure from the party, which left fewer senior security figures on the slate.
