Germany Opens ICJ Jurisdiction Challenge Over Its Support for Israel

Germany opened its first round of oral argument at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Monday, challenging the court's jurisdiction and the admissibility of Nicaragua's claims over German support for Israel. The case alleges breaches of the Genocide Convention and international humanitarian law connected to Gaza. Germany filed its preliminary objections in October 2025, suspending proceedings on the merits. The hearings run through Thursday, with Germany scheduled to argue on Monday and Wednesday and Nicaragua on Tuesday and Thursday; Israel is not a party to the case.
