Nicaragua Argues at ICJ That German Arms to Israel Breach Genocide Convention

Nicaragua told International Court of Justice judges that Germany breached the Genocide Convention by supplying arms and other support to Israel, as Managua presented first-round arguments in its case against Berlin. Its agent Carlos José Argüello Gómez said Germany could not have been unaware of a serious risk that potentially genocidal acts were occurring. Germany denies the allegation and says Nicaragua filed without adequately pursuing bilateral resolution; the hearings address preliminary objections to jurisdiction and admissibility, not the merits. Israel is not a party to the case, strongly rejects genocide allegations, and says its campaign followed Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks.
