Ministry Reports Very Good Air Quality Across Israel on Yom Kippur

The Environmental Protection Ministry reported very good air quality at every national monitoring station during Yom Kippur. Peak nitrogen-oxide readings at major-city traffic stations ranged from 3.1 to 61.1 parts per billion, far below the 500 ppb half-hour environmental value. Central Jerusalem's peak fell from 82.7 ppb before the fast to 16.2 ppb during it, while readings at two Tel Aviv stations also declined sharply. The ministry attributed the urban change mainly to reduced transport and said 2,842 electric buses and 95 electric minibuses are now replacing diesel vehicles.
