Shaare Zedek Medical Center said on September 24 that Neria Leiter, critically wounded in the September 23 ramming attack near the Maccabim checkpoint on Route 443, was stable after tests and surgeries but remained in serious condition with his life in danger. Dr. Alon Schwartz, director of the hospital's trauma unit, said Leiter suffered a very severe multi-system head injury, underwent several operations overnight and is in intensive care. His father, Israel's ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter, arrived from the United States and said doctors had stabilized his son during a very complicated night. The ambassador's eldest son, Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya Leiter, fell in battle in Gaza nearly three years ago.
