Haifa City Museum Plans Exhibition on Hora and Folk Dance

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Haifa's hillside rooftops, city towers, Mediterranean bay and ships; archival August 2015 city context for the museum's planned exhibition.

Haifa City Museum curator Yifat Ashkenazi is developing its next major exhibition around the hora and folk dancing, she disclosed in a newly published interview. She said she will co-curate the project with filmmaker Avi Weissblai, with whom she previously curated “Sussita” two years ago. Ashkenazi described Haifa as an important northern centre in the history of Israeli folk dance. The exhibition is intended to explore that history and nostalgia, alongside circle dancing that brings people together across ethnic, political and geographic differences. She did not announce an opening date or final exhibition title.
