Israel Condemns Libyan Ratification of Maritime Deal With Turkey

Israel on Wednesday condemned the Libyan House of Representatives' approval of a maritime-jurisdiction memorandum with Turkey. The Foreign Ministry said the agreement violates the sovereign rights of Israel's close regional allies and accused Turkey of destabilizing the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey welcomed the approval on Tuesday, saying the memorandum, in force since 2019, protects both countries' rights and interests under international law. Greece also rejected the Libyan decision on Tuesday, arguing that the memorandum disregards Greek islands' maritime entitlements and saying it would safeguard its sovereign rights.
