IDF Reportedly Briefed U.S. Officers on Hamas Preparations for Renewed Fighting

Senior IDF officers have reportedly shown senior U.S. military officers intelligence indicating that Hamas intends to retain its weapons and is preparing for renewed fighting in Gaza. The briefings took place in recent days, and the assessment was also presented to Israel’s political leadership. Unnamed security officials said the intelligence indicates Hamas seeks to preserve its military capabilities and would not hand its weapons to an international body. The reported military assessment was that Israeli forces would ultimately need to enter Gaza again to disarm Hamas, rather than relying on an international body to do so.
