IDF and Shin Bet Say Strike Killed Senior Hamas Security Operative in Gaza City

The IDF and Shin Bet said they killed Akram Bassam Shaaban Yassin, a senior operative in Hamas’s general security apparatus, in an intelligence-led strike in Gaza City earlier Tuesday. In their joint announcement, they described the covert apparatus as responsible for protecting Hamas leaders, moving them between emergency locations and gathering intelligence on Israeli security forces. They said Yassin had recently advanced terrorist plots against Israeli troops and civilians and worked to rebuild Hamas’s military capabilities in violation of the ceasefire. The agencies linked his killing to their continuing campaign against the apparatus, following a strike against other senior members about four months earlier.
