IDF Detains Egyptian Citizen After Border Fence Crossing Near Nitzana

Israeli troops detained an Egyptian citizen who crossed the border fence from Egypt into Israeli territory overnight, the IDF announced on October 27. Military observation personnel detected the crossing in the Nitzana sector, prompting troops to move to the location. The soldiers detained the man and transferred him to security forces for further questioning, according to the army. The IDF said it “views the incident seriously” and was continuing to maintain high readiness to defend the sector. It said the circumstances of the crossing were under investigation. The announcement did not identify the Egyptian citizen or state his motive for crossing. It did not allege that he was armed or describe an exchange of fire. The military gave no precise time for the crossing beyond saying that it occurred during the night. On December 3, 2025, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the 80th Regional Division to assess its defensive posture and response to drone threats. He met Armored Corps soldiers protecting communities around Nitzana and said the military was strengthening western-border defenses and rapid-response capabilities following lessons from October 7.
