The IDF said on October 30 that an aerial strike in the Nuseirat area of central Gaza the previous day killed Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya, a squad commander in Hamas’s military wing. In its disclosure, the military identified him as having been involved in holding numerous Israeli hostages at the beginning of the war. The hostages named in the statement included Raya Rotem, Hila Rotem Shoshani, Emily Hand, Ohad Ben Ami, Noa Argamani, Andrey Kozlov, Shlomi Ziv, Almog Meir Jan, Maxim Herkin, Yosef Haim Ohana, Segev Kalfon and Alexander Lobanov. The Hebrew statement identified Lobanov as deceased. The military also said the same strike killed Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba, a platoon commander in Hamas’s military wing. According to the IDF, both commanders had advanced attacks against Israeli troops and civilians during the war, particularly recently, and had worked to rebuild Hamas’s capabilities. The military described their activity as systematic violations of the ceasefire and said the strike removed the threat they posed. In its English statement, the IDF said measures taken to mitigate civilian harm included precision munitions and aerial surveillance. It did not provide a civilian casualty assessment. The military said Southern Command troops remained deployed in accordance with the agreement and would continue operating to remove threats.
