Palo Alto Networks Reportedly in Talks to Buy Clutch Security for About $500 Million
Palo Alto Networks is reportedly in talks to acquire Israeli cybersecurity startup Clutch Security for about $500 million. The discussions, reported on November 5, concern a company developing tools to manage the credentials used by artificial intelligence agents. The report describes negotiations, rather than a signed or completed acquisition. Clutch's work focuses on non-human identities, the credentials that software uses to access other systems. In its own explanation of the technology, the company lists API keys, secrets, service accounts, tokens and certificates among those identities. Its approach includes checking identities in real time and using short-lived credentials. Co-founder and CEO Ofir Har-Chen wrote: “Our unique Zero Trust approach to NHI security has resonated deeply with enterprise customers.” Palo Alto said it does not comment on rumors or speculation, according to the report. Clutch had not responded to a request for comment. Neither response confirms that the companies have agreed on a transaction, and the reported price remains approximately $500 million. In a January 29, 2025 announcement, Clutch said it had raised $20 million in a Series A round led by SignalFire, with participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners and Merlin Ventures. That brought its total financing to $28.5 million. At the time, the company said the funding would support sales and market expansion, research and product development, and workforce expansion. Those were its stated plans for the earlier financing round.
