Qatar’s Emir Urges Trump to Prevent Further Regional Escalation

Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, urged U.S. President Donald Trump to avoid further regional escalation during a telephone call on Friday, November 6. Qatar’s official account said Trump called the emir and that their discussion covered diplomatic efforts to ease tensions as well as relations between their two countries. The leaders reviewed the strategic relationship between Qatar and the United States and ways to strengthen it. They also discussed developments across the region and the international diplomatic work aimed at lowering tensions. The statement did not announce an agreement or give a timetable for the negotiations. The discussion included Qatar-led initiatives intended to narrow differences between the parties and help negotiations move forward. Those efforts, according to the Qatari account, seek a comprehensive agreement that would resolve the crisis and contribute to security and stability in the region. It did not identify the negotiating parties or set out proposed terms. Tamim stressed the need to continue dialogue and diplomacy, including “preventing further escalation in the region.” He also emphasized protecting freedom of maritime navigation and ensuring secure energy supplies, placing both issues alongside his appeal for a diplomatic resolution.
