Danon Rebukes Iran’s UN Representative Over Bid to Block Israeli Resolution
Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, rebuked Iran’s representative over an attempt to prevent Israel from coordinating a draft resolution in the UN’s Sixth Committee. The exchange was disclosed in reporting published on November 8. In his own Hebrew-language post that morning, Danon said he had confronted the Iranian regime’s representative over threats against Israel. Danon accused Tehran of supporting terrorist proxies and rebuilding its nuclear and ballistic capabilities. He also accused the regime of obstructing the Strait of Hormuz and killing Iranian civilians. Addressing the Iranian representative, he asked: “You think you can intimidate us?” He said threats had spread beyond Israel to the United States, Gulf countries and Europe, and referred to a map published in Tehran that he said marked dozens of European targets. These were Danon’s allegations during the confrontation. Danon said Iranian leaders were hiding underground and rejected their efforts to intimidate Israel. He separately addressed the Iranian people, saying they would regain their country and hold the regime to account. The available account did not identify the draft resolution’s subject or report a committee decision on it. Danon began his second term as Israel’s UN ambassador in August 2024, after previously serving from 2015 to 2020. In 2016, he was elected chair of the Sixth Committee, also known as the Legal Committee, becoming the first Israeli to head a UN committee.
