On Bangladesh showing interest in the Mecca Pact: the real question is not whether Saudi Arabia or Türkiye would go to war with India over Dhaka, or whether Bangladesh would fight India on Pakistan’s behalf. Neither is remotely plausible. For Bangladesh, it risks reducing its own strategic flexibility and the “security guarantee” may have little practical value in an India-Bangladesh crisis. Geography still makes India Bangladesh’s most consequential neighbour. Trading that relationship for an uncertain dividend is a risky bargain.
