Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb came close to a standstill on Wednesday, with only three vessels crossing the two chokepoints combined. Kpler tracking data recorded two transits at Hormuz, a Panama-flagged coal carrier entering and a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel exiting, down from eight a day earlier. A single Bahamas-flagged dry bulk carrier crossed Bab el-Mandeb, down from twenty the previous day. Roughly 130 to 140 ships crossed Hormuz daily before the United States and Israel went to war with Iran on February 28 and Tehran closed the strait. The Houthis said they had struck Saudi oil tankers off Yanbu and in the Gulf of Aden.
