Smotrich and Rothman to Unveil Next-Stage Judicial Reform Agenda

Religious Zionism chairman Bezalel Smotrich and Knesset Constitution Committee chairman Simcha Rothman were reported as preparing to present the next stage of their judicial-reform program on September 15. The plan would split the attorney general’s responsibilities between state prosecution and legal advice to the government, and let ministers appoint their ministries’ legal advisers. It would also propose an override clause governing when the Supreme Court may invalidate Knesset laws, what judicial majority would be required, and when final authority would remain with the Knesset. The presentation is intended to set the party’s agenda for the election campaign and its participation in the next government.
