Health Ministry Reports Hospital Infection Decline

The Health Ministry's 2025 hospital-infection data showed continued declines in dangerous hospital-acquired infections and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The national prevention program prevented an estimated 4,668 acquired infections, 1,319 possible deaths, more than 30,000 hospital days and about NIS 300 million in costs, while roughly 4,000 resistant infections were still recorded. Acquired sepsis in general ICUs fell from 5.3 to 2.6 cases per 1,000 hospitalization days. This is quiet public-health statecraft: Israel saves lives by measuring hospitals, publishing gaps and pushing prevention, while the remaining toll demands continued rigor.
