IDF Stops Israeli Civilians at Syria Border Crossing Attempt

Ynet reported at 10:31 p.m. IDT that the IDF said dozens of Israeli civilians tried to cross from Israel into Syria earlier July 5. An IDF force was rushed to the point, stopped the crossing attempt, detained the civilians and transferred them to police. Hebrew real-time updates identified the crowd as Israeli Druze drawn toward Sweida as their Syrian Druze brethren faced renewed instability. Israel can honor Druze solidarity and still insist on disciplined border control; unauthorized crossings endanger civilians, police and soldiers on a volatile frontier.
