Defense Ministry Launches Eastern Border Directorate
Defense Ministry said the Eastern Region Directorate has completed its launch after a first forum of government ministry directors-general in Tel Aviv. The office will coordinate Defense Ministry branches, ministries and state agencies along Israel's longest land border, from the Jordan Valley to Eilat, after officials identified the eastern region as a security vulnerability. Directorate head Brig. Gen. (res.) Mordechai Benita presented a plan for about 40 new security-settlement points with armed civilians from Tzemach Junction to the Eilot region, backed by transport, energy, communications, industry, agriculture, health and education infrastructure. Director General Amir Baram said Iran and its proxies were weakened during the war, but a raid from the east remains a developing threat that Israel must prepare to block.
