Israel Police Launches Dash Cam Enforcement in 100 Patrol Cars

The Israel Police launched the Road Officers project Wednesday, installing dash cameras and automated documentation systems in an initial 100 patrol vehicles, Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Danny Levy announced at the rollout ceremony. Footage of live traffic violations, including phone use, red-light running, shoulder driving and failure to yield, transfers from patrol cars to a national review center that issues citations by mail to registered owners once the license plate is confirmed. Levy said this is judgment day for drivers who drive as if we are a third-world country, and installed one camera in his own vehicle. Traffic Division Chief Maj.-Gen. Haim Shmueli said every officer can now carry out precise, effective enforcement while driving, calling it a national effort to restore road safety. Police plan to expand deployment to hundreds of additional patrol vehicles inside and outside the Traffic Division.
