Coalition Sets October 27 Election, Ending 38-Year Early-Vote Streak

Israel's governing coalition set October 27 as the date for the 2026 Knesset election Sunday, after the Knesset House Committee fixed July 17 as the date the current parliament will disperse. The vote will be Israel's first held on schedule in 38 years, while the government will be the first in 53 years to complete a full term. Candidate lists are due September 7, 57 days before the election. The decision resolves weeks of uncertainty over a possible earlier ballot and gives parties a fixed timetable for primaries, slate formation and the final legislative push before the Knesset disperses.
