Knesset Panel Advances Legal Recognition and Tailored Care for Combat-Trauma Survivors

The Knesset House Committee advanced a coalition-and-opposition-backed amendment Sunday that would give combat-trauma survivors explicit legal status under the Disabled Persons (Compensation and Rehabilitation) Law. The proposal would require the Defense Ministry Rehabilitation Department to provide individually tailored treatment, expand exceptional assistance for spouses, children and parents, and establish annual reporting to Knesset committees through 2032. Coalition chairman Ofir Katz called the move "historic justice," while Forum Yahalomei Krav said years of general definitions had failed to reflect the distinctive nature of psychological wounds. The bill is scheduled for its remaining readings this week.
