Rubio Launches Campaign to Dismantle ICC Over Israel and US Sovereignty

Secretary of State Marco Rubio

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio published an opinion piece and video message Monday vowing that Washington will "dismantle the ICC brick by brick, if necessary." Rubio framed the diplomatic escalation as "sovereign states over globalism" and pledged to shield Israel and other American allies from International Criminal Court prosecutions. A State Department official said the toolkit spans travel bans, visa revocations, additional sanctions on the court and affiliated organizations, and diplomatic pressure on member states to withdraw from the Rome Statute. The campaign follows the ICC's November 2024 arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
