Iran Political-Prisoner Executions Nearly Triple to 47 in 2026

Iran’s regime has executed at least 47 political prisoners since the start of 2026, nearly three times the 16 recorded during the same period last year, according to rights-monitoring data cited by multiple reports. Iran Human Rights said authorities are exploiting wartime international attention to intensify internal repression. Its director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, said records show every political prisoner executed in the past three months was convicted on confessions obtained after torture, without fair proceedings or access to counsel of choice. Iranian authorities maintain that prisoners receive fair trials, while families and rights monitors dispute that account.
