France Says Iran Detained Two Embassy Staff and Assaulted One
France's foreign minister said Iranian security forces detained and interrogated two embassy employees for several hours after harassing them near the mission in Tehran. Jean-Noël Barrot said one staff member was physically assaulted and called the episode a flagrant breach of diplomatic immunities. Both employees returned safely to the embassy and are due to leave Iran within hours. Barrot said he warned Iran's foreign minister that the incident would have consequences. The incident occurred Sunday evening, and Barrot disclosed it Monday.
