Police in the Carmel district opened an investigation after receiving a report of a suspected attempt to set fire to a Japanika branch in Haifa's Carmel Center during the previous week. Investigators carried out a range of actions that led them to identify a suspect. Officers arrested the 28-year-old Kiryat Ata resident on Saturday and took him for questioning. The initial notice did not name the suspect, give the date or circumstances of the attempted arson, report injuries or damage, or state whether investigators had linked the case to recent attacks on other Japanika branches.
