Burnham Names Streeting Defence Secretary in First UK Cabinet

Britain's new Prime Minister Andy Burnham appointed Wes Streeting as defence secretary and Miatta Fahnbulleh as energy security and net zero secretary as he continued forming his first cabinet. Earlier appointments put former defence secretary John Healey at the Treasury and Ed Miliband at the Foreign Office, while Yvette Cooper moved to health and Shabana Mahmood remained home secretary. Burnham took office Monday after replacing Keir Starmer as Labour leader and being formally appointed by King Charles III. His full cabinet is due to meet Tuesday as the government confronts conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
